The Canadian Heritage Information Network (CHIN) has a database that lists
objects from dozens of institutions across Canada. I believe it now
stands at about 2.5 million objects. These are not all held by one
institution, but if you are looking for advice on working with a large
database, they may be able to help you. I believe they're web site is at
http://daryl.chin.gc.ca -- alternatively, a web-search on "CHIN" should
find their site.
