Deborah,
What about the Portland Museum of Art in Portland, ME? They have very
strict collection criteria but I know that they collect works created by
Maine artists and have an extensive decorative arts division. Their website
is www.portlandmuseum.org and I believe their email is [log in to unmask]
Good Luck!

Subject: Mourning Pictures
A long-time donor to Stuhr Museum recently wanted to donate some Mourning
Pictures to our collection. Unfortunately they fall way outside our mission
and I had to turn them down. She is very interested in finding a "proper
museum home" for them and asked me to help her track one down. There are
five Mourning Pictures altogether and they are framed and in excellent
condition. It is believed that they were originally created in Maine
pre-1850. If you are interested in learning more about the pictures or
think you might want to add them to your collection, I can pass your name on
to the donor. If you aren't interested yourself, but know of a museum that
would be an appropriate "home," please let me know.
Thanks!
Deborah Arenz
