Position Title: Assistant Archivist, Dept. Of Archives & Records
American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee
Responsibilities:
Monitors and coordinates archive tasks and projects.
Assists in-house staff in accessing files and records.
Administrative upkeep of department - Budget and financial record-
keeping, invoices and payments, supplies and equipment.
Oversees visits of outside researchers - Sends out applications,
distributes completed applications to screening committee, notifies
researchers of application approval, sets up appointments for research
visits, assists researchers in accessing material, supervises
photocopying of material for researchers.
Coordinates outside research requests (correspondence and phone),
assists with research.
Coordinates warehouse shipments from Archives and other departments
to off-site location.
Newsletter - Layout, editorial tasks, contributes articles.
Prepares minutes of Archives & Oral History Committee meetings.
Special projects - e.g., monitors computerization of photo collection,
microfilm projects, preparation of small exhibits.
Qualifications:
Strong computer skills, ability to perform and prioritize many parallel
tasks, excellent communication and organizational skills, background in
20th century Jewish history. Archival or library experience preferred.
