Folks:  The proverbial "friend-of-a-friend" needs some advice on Danish
museums that might be interested in large smoking pipes.  See their
description of the pipes and their provenance below.  If anyone can help me
out, please reply privately.

I am looking to learn more about two antique pipes I own. My (step)
grandfather Klitten gave them to me 25 years ago before he died. Anyway
prior to his death he gave me these two pipes. They were made in the
1700/1800's and were given to his Father from the Queen or King of Denmark
for his  contribution during the war. Not sure which war, probably WW II.

He was also knighted at the same time for his heroic efforts. He smuggled
Jews out of Denmark during war.  The pipes are called sitting pipes. They
are
4' high and are to be smoked while sitting in a chair. They are made of fine

China. Brass helmet covers the bowl while stem is made of a woven material
to allow for flexibility. Hard to describe beyond that.

I would like to hook up with a national museum in Denmark to locate an
antique dealer to determine value. Now I am not sure what I will do with
this information. . . .  My Grandfather told me when I was done enjoying
them to put them in a museum or to a collector where they would be protected
and valued for all time. Now it seems to me that the place for these
treasures in Denmark.  Back home where they came from..... Grandfather's Mom
and Dad only had two sons. Neither had children. Both son's have died.I have
tried the web to no avail.

Any help would be appreciated.
