How about an exhibit using photocopies of historic town postcards,
building photos, and textual information at the booths and counters...
In this way, you are not endangering the artifacts, yet are allowing the
general idea of the original to be seen. Also, this may entice both locals
and travellers into the museum to see the originals and other examples.

Possibly design a special exhibit menu or placemats, to show both the
what's being served for food and education.

Or even placing newsletters or info sheets in the booths (with the owners'
permission of course) would get more people in the community involved with
the museum.
