The Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology at Harvard University is
pleased to announce the following position:
Temporary Part-Time Preparator
Duties & Responsibilities
Reports to Ethnographic Collections Manager and Conservator. Works with
Conservator to design and construct
custom supports for fragile art objects to improve long term
preservation for research. Prepares protective housings
and storage supports for wood and fiber-based objects. Affixes museum
catalogue numbers to objects. Enters
object information into EmbARK database. Performs other duties as required.
Required Education, Experience, Skills
BA or BFA highly desirable. Prior experience in museum setting with
knowledge of African material culture.
Knowledge of mat cutting and art handling. Excellent manual dexterity,
strong organizational skills, accuracy and
attention to detail required. Computer skills including knowledge of
word processing, spreadsheet and database
software required. Familiarity with EmbARK database preferred.
Knowledge of collections care/preventive
conservation and an ability to work while standing for long periods of
time very helpful. NOTE: This is an eight-month grant funded position.
The position is for 28 hours per week. Ideally, it would begin on May 1,
2000 and end on December 31, 2000.
