Wendy,
I suppose that since a transfer of title (to the insurance company) has
occurred, that you would not have to keep them as accessioned artifacts. But
I would definitely keep a very good written (and perhaps computer) record of
what happened to the artifacts and the insurance information. Your
institution needs to be able to document why the artifacts are not in the
collection as we need to be accountable to what we hold in trust for the
