Dear Colleagues,

There has recently been a discussion on Tri-net (a tourism discussion
list moderated by the University of Hawaii) regarding the impact of the
designation of heritage sites on tourism. There are a number of tourism
researchers now addressing this issue in relation to sites in the U.K.,
New Zealand, Canada and other areas. There will be a special edition of
the journal Tourism Recreation Research dedicated to this issue in the
year 2000.

Is anyone aware of any research that has been undertaken on this theme
of the relationship between designation and touriam from the heritage
management and or cultural conservation aspect? Please reply to me on
list, or off list. I am also sending a copy of this posting to my
tourism colleagues who participated in the discussion on Tri-net, as
indicated above.

I will post a summary of the resposnes received on the Museum-L list.
Looking forward to your response.
