Ralph - May I suggest that you obtain a copy of "Museum Mission
Statements: Building a Distinct Identity', a Technical Information
Service publication of the American Association of Museums. There
are numerous examples in the publication and instructive discussions
by experienced professionals about forming your own mission
statement.
