Collections Management Internship
The San Jose Museum of Art is offering an eight week summer internship in
the Collections Management department. This internship is intended for a
graduate student in Museum Studies who has a particular interest in
collections management. The internship will offer a stipend of $1000.
The San Jose Museum of Art is dedicated to fostering the awareness,
appreciation, and understanding of twentieth century art in the diverse
audiences of the Bay Area. The Museum’s collection reflects this mission,
and includes contemporary works of art in diverse media by nationally and
internationally recognized artists.
The intern will work closely with the Museum’s Registrar on projects related
to the permanent collection. Typical duties may include:
o Research and documentation of the Museum’s permanent collection
o Identifying and labeling works of art in the permanent collection
o Maintaining and upgrading the collection files
o Permanent collection database maintenance and data entry
Candidates should have a basic understanding of museum collections
management methods. Strong computer skills and database experience (in Mac-
based Filemaker) are also required. Candidates should be self-motivated,
with strong organizational skills.
The schedule of the internship is a minimum of 30 hours per week, Monday
through Friday.
