I have to disagree. I worked in museums prior to my graduate training and I
worked in them after. I didn't realize how much I didn't know until I had
formal training. I think experience is key, but I personally am very
thankful for my education. The graduate programs that I know of combine
practical experience with studies so you have the opportunity to gain both
experience and formal training at the same time.
It may not be for everyone, but I think a graduate degree is extremely
helpful for pursuing a career in museums these days.
