FULL TIME POSITION AT THE OHIO HISTORICAL SOCIETY
REGISTRAR OF COLLECTIONS
NATURE OF WORK
The person filling this position will be responsible for maintaining records
associated with the Ohio Historical Society's museum collections and
coordinating collections-related activities. Responsibilities include
overseeing the automated catalog, monitoring object locations, overseeing
loans to and from the collections, creating and maintaining collection
records (including accession, deaccession, loan, insurance, and related
records), arranging regular collection audits and inventories, coordinating
rights and reproductions, and overseeing conservation planning and contract
arrangements with outside conservators. The Registrar works closely with
the Collections Facility Supervisor and Curators to provide care of
collections at all locations and to ensure controlled access to the
collections. The Registrar will have supervisory duties and is expected to
prepare and maintain budgets associated with responsibilities contained in
this job description. This position reports to the Chief of the
Collections/Curatorial Group.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Masters Degree in museum studies, history, archaeology, anthropology, or a
natural science. Minimum three years experience in museum registration.
Thorough knowledge of registration methods and policies, as well as current
museum collection management and handling practices. Knowledge of and
experience with automated collection records systems and collections
conservation.
