Hi!

A few weeks back I posted an query to the listserv about digital cameras for
photographing artifacts.  I want to thank everyone who responded, I received
a lot of very helpful information.  Some of the cameras mentioned were the
Nikon Coolpix 950, the Olympus C-2000 and the Minolta T400; I think we are
leaning toward the Nikon at this point.

As an archive, we have not had a lot of experience taking pictures of
artifacts.  We would like to make the process as professional as possible,
but do not have a great deal of money to spend.  Can anyone recommend a
reference that gives the basics of artifact photography including such
things as type of lighting, placement of lighting, selection of backdrops,
positioning of the artifact, etc.?  Hopefully with this type of information
we can make the most of our resources and produce good quality images for
use on the web.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
