I am currently researching physic rooms or medicinal rooms in
eighteenth-century houses. Evidence for such rooms appears in several
Maryland inventories. The rooms usually have a heat source, mortar and
pestle, various oils and medicinals and sometimes a bed. They relate, in
some ways, to the "still rooms" which have been discussed on
Museum-L. I am planning to install a room in the William Paca House
(1765-80) in this manner, so any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thank you,
Alexandra Deutsch McKee
