Charlene Porsild received her Ph.D. from Carleton
University, Ottawa, Canada in 1994. Her areas of
specialty are gender and women's history in the U.S.
and Canada, environmental and native history, and the
North American West. She is the author of two books,
Gamblers and Dreamers: Women, Men and
Community in the Klondike (University of British
Columbia Press, 1998), and Universiti d'Ottawa: Un
heritage pour demain/Univeristy of Ottawa: A
Tradition for Tomorrow (Ottawa University Press,
1990).
