VISITOR RELATIONS MANAGER
Full Time
The Organization
Wave Hill is a public garden and New York City cultural institution in
the Riverdale section of the Bronx. Its twenty-eight acres, four
historic buildings, and five greenhouses overlooking the Hudson River
serve as a laboratory for discovering humanity's interconnection with
the environment. Wave Hill offers over 110,000 visitors a year the
opportunity to explore their own relationships with the natural world
through programs in horticulture, environmental education, woodland
restoration, and visual and performing arts.
The Position
The Visitor Services Department is seeking a highly motivated,
enthusiastic person with experience working with the public. This
department is responsible for visitor amenities and earned income,
including the Café, the Gift Shop, group tours, and facilities rentals.
The department also works to improve the quality of the visitor
experience at Wave Hill. The Visitor Relations Manager, working closely
with Public Programs and Security Departments, will actively oversee
Saturday and Sunday visitorship, walking the grounds and monitoring all
aspects of the visitor experience, and will take a leading role in
analyzing and shaping visitor policy.
Job Requirements
Weekend duties include:
* Observe and interact with public as weekend manager; respond to needs;
enforce rules
* Oversee operation of reception/information desk
* Monitor quality of public facilities, signs, information systems;
facilitate improvements
* Coordinate smooth transition between visitor hours and after-hours
private events
* Develop and present public talks regarding Wave Hill's history and
mission
Weekday administrative duties include:
* Evaluate and make recommendations regarding public policy in regular
written reports
* Organize customer service training for staff, as required
* Participate in planning for new Visitor Center
* Collect and organize visitor statistics
Qualifications
* Outgoing and energetic, with excellent, mature interpersonal skills
* Experience in Visitor Relations/Customer Service, preferably
managerial
* Computer skills, including spreadsheet and database programs, basic
graphics
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Bilingual with Spanish a plus
* College graduate preferred
Salary High 20's-low 30's, commensurate with
experience; full benefits package
