Hi,
I am researching a similar subject to yourself, my emphasis is on the
collecting of particular objects by museums, that is design objects and the
origin of design collections.
I have found all writings by Susan Pearce extremely relevant
also
Russell Belk : Collecting in a consumer society
Lubar and Kingley: History from Things
Simon Knell: Collecting and the future of museums
Csikszentmihali and Rochberg-Halton: The meaning of things
hope this helps - your research sounds v. interesting - good luck
