Hi Laura (from southern Michigan),
Try the Detroit Historical Museum. They have a wonderful toy collection. We borrowed a nice range of tin toys (late 19th c.- mid 20th c.) for a tin toy exhibit a year ago last Christmas.

The Museum of Science and Industry just recently did an exhibit (it was up over the holidays) on these sorts of toys -- from the 2nd half of the 20th century. You might contact them.
