Using Network Technology to Enhance Community Connections: Lessons from
Model Projects
Lammot du Pont,
Program Officer, TIIAP
Through advances in network technology, distinctions between museums, art,
and education have blurred. Museums and cultural institutions,
historically at the vanguard of enhancing opportunities for lifelong
learning, have embraced a variety of technologies to extend partnerships
and enhance their communications with the public.
Through the experiences of model projects supported under the Department of
Commerce's Telecommunications and Information Infrastructure Program
(TIIAP), Lammot du Pont will explore the impact of technology on lifelong
learning, evaluation methods for network-based projects, and opportunities
to find out more about TIIAP's funding process and priorities.
Lammot du Pont is currently a Program Officer for the Department of
Commerce's Telecommunications and Information Infrastructure Assistance
Program (TIIAP). TIIAP provides matching grants for network applications
to non-profit organizations such as schools, libraries, museums, hospitals,
public safety entities, and state and local governments. For the last
three years, Lammot has worked with a range of cultural and educational
organizations that are using network technology to enhance lifelong
learning.
Before joining TIIAP, Lammot worked as an economist at the National
Institute of Standards and Technology, focusing on issues and technologies
associated with the development of an advanced information infrastructure.
Lammot is a native of Washington D.C., earning his Bachelor's degree from
Duke University and a Master's in International Affairs from Columbia
University.
