A great resource for research on Museum Studies programs in the US is the
recently published guide from AAM Bookstore that encompasses in-depth
information on graduate and undergraduate museum studies programs:
"1999-2000 Guide to Museum Studies and Training in the US", order no. 830
from AAM Bookstore [log in to unmask] or www.aam-us.org.

Janna,
Hi there! Our backgrounds are quite different but I thought I would reply
to
your inquiry anyway. I have a BA in anthropology with a minor in museum
studies. I felt that I needed to go onto grad. school, even though I had
worked in both the art and anthro museums (for 3 1/2 years) on campus. I
went
on to get a MA in Museum Science. I graduated in December of 1998 but
started looking for a job in May-June of 1998 and by August had a job lined
up and waiting for me. In short, my background (going onto grad. school)
appears to have helped better prepare me for a career after school. I have
found that a lot of places tend to look at your schooling sometimes more
than
your past experience. They see this as my first job, despite the fact that
I
have worked in museums in a professional capacity since 1993. I hope this
helps. It is just my personal experience, obviously I can't speak for
anyone
else. If you have any more questions that I can answer in more detail,
please feel free to email me off the list! Best of luck
Sincerely,
Ginger M. Young, Registrar
