Dear Vincent . . . this may start a roar of discussion, but I would't mat
and frame ANY old newspaper . . . regardless of its stability.  If the
information is vital to the exhibit, consider a one-time COLOR copy process
(like they do at Kinkos for $1 per 8x11 image)... it won't destroy the
original paper, and a color copy of the black and white image is really
very "real" looking since it will show the age and the fading of the
original.  Mat and frame the copy, and if you MUST keep the original, put
it in a neutral (pH balanced, or, "acid-free") Hollinger-style box.

We even color copy our lithographs and engravings, photos and documents
that we want to display.  DO NOT make numerous copies of the original, as
the copying process will accelerate the deterioration of the paper.

I have a project coming up involving framing some 80+ year old newspaper
articles and I was wondering what experiences people have had with Wei-to
or Bookeeper solutions for deacidification.  I have heard that they darken
paper, and if this stuff gets any darker it won't be very legible.
I'd appreciate any comments from people who have worked with paper
(particularly newsprint) preservation.
