THE HUNTINGTON LIBRARY, ART COLLECTIONS, AND BOTANICAL GARDENS
RESEARCH AND GRANTS ASSOCIATE
POSITION: Working under general supervision, plans, writes, and administers foundation and government grants as assigned. Coordinates prospect research program. Staffs Major Gifts program. Has regular contact with staff at all levels throughout the organization. Reports to the Major Gifts Director.
Essential Functions
Grant writing and administration
Plans, writes, and prepares on foundation and government grants as assigned. Responsible for timely reports on grants.
Prospect Research
Coordinates prospect identification, qualification, and tracking.
Maintains donor prospect files.
Prepares individual profiles for the Development Department, President's Office, and volunteers as needed.
Manages and maintains Development reference library and on-line sources.
Works with Development staff to integrate research function into all areas of development program.
Major Gifts
In consultation with Major Gifts Director, prepares agenda for weekly meetings, and prepares and distributes minutes.
Writes acknowledgment letters for major gifts, except those from Trustees and Overseers.
Maintains Major Gifts records and prepares quarterly and annual reports on major gifts and grants for the President's Office and the Board of Trustees.
Assists in administering The Huntington Successors program: researches and calculates new and ascending donors, plans and coordinates February event and follow-up.
Other Functions
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Excellent research, writing, organizational and communication skills such as may be obtained through completion of a BA degree. Strong interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a wide variety of people - staff, volunteers, and members of the governing boards. Ability to take initiative, establish priorities, complete complex assignments in a timely manner. Tactful, courteous, patient, and discreet in handling highly confidential information. Two years of professional writing experience - promotional materials, copywriting, and/or grant writing. Development prospect research experience preferred.
Working knowledge of MS Office including Word and Excel. Knowledge of Blackbaud Raisers' Edge preferred.

THE HUNTINGTON, located about 15 miles north-east of downtown Los Angeles, was created in 1919 as an independent private library for advanced scholarly research in English and American history and literature, combined with public art galleries and botanical gardens. The Huntington exhibits collections of British, Renaissance, and American art, rare books and manuscripts, and 150 acres of specialized botanical gardens. It is consulted annually by some 1,800 scholars, toured by over 20,000 school children, visited by 500,000 members of the general public, and employs approximately 300 staff with an annual operating budget of over $15 million.
