The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston has a bronze Lincoln by Daniel Chester French
with a sign on it encouraging people to touch it, and explaining why not to
touch others--oils, friction, etc.

We exhibit Dallin's Paul Revere, with small signs on the pedestal. Did not
prevent the editor of the regional edition of the Boston Globe from slapping
it to see what we meant by "painted plaster."
