I haven't seen the accreditation materials, but my own feeling is that
selling objects out of exhibit creates a misleading view of the museums
"permanent" collections (i.e., that they, too, are for sale). I'm not sure
I see how selling out of the exhibits could be ok, when selling
deaccessioned objects in the museum shop is generally considered unethical.
A museum is not a commercial gallery. It might be possible to let
interested parties know that the objects might be available for purchase
from the artist/owner once the exhibit is over, but I would feel
uncomfortable with any public indication of that. And I would certainly
feel uncomfortable with price tags or price lists in the gallery!
