We are in the process of developing the Texas History Internet Consortium
which, when complete, will result in a search initiated at any one of the
consortium member's web sites will actuall be a search of all their sites
simultaneously. This isn't quite what you were asking about but it is a
variation on that theme. Maybe you should initiate something like this
among like museums in your region or throughout the country.

Subject: Links Between On-Line Museum Collection Sites
Does anyone know of museum sites that provide collection related link
referals to other museums? This is in regard to specific collection related
inquiries, not general links to other museums.
For example:
Say I am searching through Museum "A's" web site to discover whether or not
that museum holds works by a certain artist. I find that Museum "A" does
indeed own a work by my artist. But, in addition to listing the works that
Museum "A" has in its collection, their web site can also link me to works
by that artist in other museum collections.
I know that the MELVYL system functions in a similar fashion for library
collections. Does anything like this exist for museum collections?
Thanks to any and all who might have an answer to this.
