We are a national historic site with a large historic house and archives. We
have some books which were owned by the library. However, the lions share of
the collection is dealt with as an archives. As the manager of the
collection and curator by training, I have tried to find qualified archivist
to deal with it - not a librarian. I suggest your training lean more towards
archival work. The Society of American Archivist have a web page - I believe
the address is www.archives.org. They have a listing of all graduate
programs in archives.
