"Die letzte Reise: Sterben, Tod und Trauersitten in Oberbayern" (The Final
Journey: Dying, Death and Mourning in Oberbayern) at the Muenchner
Stadtmuseum in 1984 was one of the finest exhibitions I have ever seen
(filed in that category of admiration entitled "Wish we could claim
responsibility"). It was poetic, touching, compelling, absorbing. The
comment book at the end became an extension of the exhibition with some of
the most thought-provoking notes from visitors that I have ever read. The
catalogue of the same name, published by Hugendubel in Muenchen (ISBN
3-88034-247-4) is extensive and includes all the artifacts from the show.
Unfortunately, it doesn't include any information about the installation,
the creativity of which made the show brilliant.
