JOB OPENING ANNOUNCEMENT
MUSEUM PROGRAM - ARTS PROGRAM ASSOCIATE
The New York State Council on the Arts is recruiting for the position
of Arts Program Associate (Grade 23) in the Museum Program. The
annual salary range for the position is $46,727 - $57,537 (plus $823
locality pay) commensurate with experience. The starting salary
usually begins in the lower end of the range. There is a full
benefits package including health, dental, life insurance, retirement
and vision.
The U.S Immigration and Nationality act stipulates that no individual
may be employed without proof of authority to work in this country.
The minimum qualifications are a four (4) year college degree in
liberal arts or related field (or equivalent work experience) and
three (3) years of progressively responsible artistic/ administrative
experience within the museum profession. Alternatively, the candidate
may have an advanced degree in art history, history, American studies,
material culture studies, museum studies, or a related field and two
(2) years of artistic/ administrative experience within the museum
profession. The minimum qualifications also include computer
proficiency in word processing, data spreadsheet programs, and on-line
communications.
The Museum Program administers grants to art, history, science,
children's and specialized museums, and for art historical,
historical, anthropological, science and multi-disciplinary
exhibitions. The primary responsibilities of the position include
working on all phases of grants administration: (1) Provide applicants
with information and professional advice relating to the preparation
of applications, (2) Conduct application reviews either on-site or by
telephone, (3) Evaluate applications using analysis of both
programmatic and fiscal criteria, (4) Prepare applications for
competitive review, (5) Prepare written reports, organizational
reviews, statistical analyses and memoranda for peer review panels,
(6) Coordinate information flow for the grants program, (7) Present
grant analysis and recommendation before Panel, Council Committee and
Council, (8) Communicate Council grant decision and funding rationale
to applicants, (9) Monitor contract compliance of grantees. Other
responsibilities of the position include: (1) Attend exhibitions and
public programs of applicants, (2) Assist the Program Director in
convening meetings, forums, workshops and seminars to address needs
and concerns of the field, (3) Collect and maintain data of field
resources, gather and analyze information and produce reports on
topics of importance to the field, (4) Assist with technical
assistance initiatives, develop and coordinate special projects which
respond to the needs of the field, (5) Represent the Program at
meetings, symposia and professional conferences, (6) Organize meetings
of constituents, (7) Maintain applicant files and support materials.
Applicants should have strong organizational and communication skills,
both written and verbal, and a keen eye for detail. Applicants are
expected to have a working knowledge of museum practices and a
familiarity with museums of at least one discipline. Applicants
should be willing to travel throughout New York State. A valid New
York State driver's license is very useful.
