Youth Education Program Associate
Chicago Botanic Garden in Glencoe, Illinois, seeks a Youth Education
Program Associate to research, design, teach, train docents, and
evaluate on-site educational programs for school children and organized
groups of children in the summer.
Duties include conducting daily operation of school programs including
all classes, tours, teacher-guided and on-their-own groups. Order and
provide all materials. Coordinate registration procedures with Group
Visits; training, scheduling, supervising and evaluating docents;
investigating and incorporating current best practice education methods
for museums/botanic gardens;
Regular administrative duties include promoting School Visit Services
and Summer Programs through brochure development and print pieces for
exhibit at local teacher conferences, and producing monthly and year-end
statistical reports and records. Other projects and duties as assigned.
Requirements: BS or BA in Education, Museum Education, Environmental
Education, Botany, or Biology, with 1 year of experience in a classroom
or museum setting with emphasis on science. Knowledge/familiarity with
inquiry-based and object-based teaching. Good oral and written
communication skills.

Supervisor, Youth Services
Chicago Botanic Garden in Glencoe, Illinois, seeks a Supervisor, Youth
Services, to coordinate and supervise the delivery of horticulture and
environmental education services and resources both on- and off-site for
Chicago area schools and school children.
Duties include supervising year-round school and youth education
programs gardening/horticulture and environmental education; developing
new programs; ensuring day-to-day operation of programs; working with
Garden staff to develop nature/environmental science natural area
visitor interpretation; conducting regular administrative
responsibilities including promoting Garden youth services at local
events, financial and statistical record-keeping, and budget monitoring.
Pursue other projects and duties as assigned.
Requirements: BS or BA in Education, Museum education, Environmental
Education, Botany or Biology, with 3 years experience in a classroom or
museum setting with emphasis on science. Knowledge/familiarity with
current teaching issues and methodologies. Excellent communication
skills, both oral and written.
