for statistics of museums in Germany you should contact the
Institut fuer Museumskunde
Stiftung Preussischer Kulturbesitz
Berlin
They do an annual survey by questionnaire of visitor statistics, temporary
exhibitions etc. which is then published in their series.
Obviously, the reliability of the data depends on the response to that
survey, and on who is on their mailing list. Bearing these restrictions in
mind, as well as the points made by Patrick Boylan, their data are fairly
comprehensive.
