While I'm at it, the President's budget, which was released yesterday,
requests $150 million for the NEA -- an increase of over 50% above current
funding. It also requests an additional $10 million for the Department of
Education "for a new grant competition--in collaboration with the National
Endowment for the Arts--that focuses on the arts, including the visual arts,
music, dance, and theater, as part of the education of students in high-need
schools, including those with high rates of poverty and youth violence."
Finally, it also requests $2.5 million for a program just now getting under
way "to help at-risk youth interpret media images as a way of preventing
youth violence, delinquency, and substance abuse."
I don't have any further information beyond above wording.
