Heather,
What you've probably heard about is one of the museums participating
in the Smithsonian Affiliations Program. The affiliations program
creates long-term relationships between a museum and the Smithsonian
to share Smithsonian collections and programs, but the participating
museum is by no means a Smithsonian branch.
There are two Arizona museums currently participating in the
Smithsonian Affiliations Program -- the Bisbee Mining and Historical
Museum and the Museum of Progress.
For more information about the Smithsonian Affiliations Program go to
www.si.edu/affil_program/. Please do not e-mail me directly -- I only
know about the program because I used to work at the Smithsonian's
Office of Sponsored Projects which helps the affiliations program with
the development of the MOUs.

Hi all!
I have heard rumors that the Smithsonian is planning on opening a
branch here in Arizona. Does anyone know _anything_ about this? To
date I have only heard this from non-museum people who tend to not
think about
museums unless "Smithsonian" is in the title. I'd especially like to
know where and what type.
Thanks in advance for any forthcoming info.
Heather
