There are distance learning courses specifically designed for museum
professionals - directed studies in areas where you think you need
development - for example evaluation, program development, etc. The
University of Oklahoma has a program, and I am sure there are others out
there.
There are also programs that are directed for mid-career professionals
that are certificates rather than degrees. For example the Musuem
Managemente Institute in Calif. and the Museum Management Program at
Colorado, the Windedale seminar in Texas.
Finally, the Smithsonian used to offer short courses for museum
professionals in a variety of topics - docent management, collections
management, etc. The Campbell Institute, for example, offers courses in
conservation and collections care.
