Just a warning for those visiting Washington, DC this coming weekend, that the
NATO conference is going to be in town (4/23-25). Numerous roads in the
downtown area and around the Mall will be closed, as will a number of museums.
All of the Smithsonian's museums on the Mall will be closed on Friday except
the National Museum of American History, the National Museum of Natural
History, and the National Air and Space Museum. They will be open during
normal business hours (10a-5:30p) but the cafeterias will be closed. All of
the SI museums will be open again by Saturday and Sunday. The National Gallery
of Art will be open during regular hours, as will the US Holocaust Memorial
Museum.
The Federal Triangle Metro station will be closed for a time as well. And to
tell you how bad they are expecting things to be, most Federal employees have
been given the day off and DC schools will be closed.
It looks like Friday will be the worst, but expect problems all weekend. You
can get more information from: http://wwww.washingtonpost.com (just do a search
on "NATO conference"). They've had updates almost everyday.
Welcome to Washington!
