We receive a generous contribution each year from a corporation. The
account grows bigger every year, as we are not obligated to "spend" all
the money during a given school year. The fund enables us to serve a
large percentage of the Head Start centers in our area, as well as a lot
of inner city schools.
Although nearly all of the money is used for scholarship admissions as I
described, the fund is fairly flexible. In the past, we have used small
amounts for other education-related items. When we first hired paid
tour guides, for example, we paid them out of the fund, with the
rationale that by paying them we were able to serve more kids -- which
is what the fund is all about.

If children are on free or reduced lunch at school, they are eligible.
The teacher then prepares a letter stating the number of children in the
class that meet this criteria and the letter is signed by the
principal/director of the school. We approve/deny scholarship and then
notify the teacher of the scholarship amount. We approve nearly 100% of
these requests. We also use this fund for select adult groups, too.
The fund is large enough that we can accommodate just about everyone who
has a need.
