POSITION: Marketing and Communications Intern
DEPARTMENT: Marketing and Communications (M&C)
SUPERVISOR: Marketing and Communications Assistant

POSITION PURPOSE:
Under the general supervision of the Marketing and Communications Assistant,
the Marketing and Communications Intern provides administrative support for
the M&C department and coordinates additional projects as assigned by other
M&C staff.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES (Marketing):
• Contribute to marketing strategies through researching target outreach
groups, assisting in the production and distribution of marketing
collateral, and helping organize special events
• Assist Marketing Associate with updating and expanding mailing lists
• Assist with exhibition promotional opportunities, such as radio and on-
line promotions
• Perform other related duties.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES (Communications):
• Assist communications staff with press previews through coordinating media
packets and helping with event logistics
• Update and create new press lists and assist public relations associates
with press requests
• Label and help maintain photos and other press materials
• Gather resource materials for press releases and articles for the member
publications; help proofread and fact check press releases and articles
• Read newspapers, magazines, and other publications for Museum-related
information and assist the marketing and communications assistant with
weekly clipping reports and filing and maintenance of clipping files
• Perform other related duties such as filing, photocopying, and labeling
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Training: Open to undergraduates, recent graduates, and
graduate students with coursework and/or demonstrated interest in one or
more of the following fields: art history, marketing and/or communications.
Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Claris
FileMaker Pro a plus. Excellent administrative/organizational skills,
concern for detail and accuracy; excellent language, spelling and grammar
skills. Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to deal
effectively and courteously with the public, artists, vendors, and other
staff members; as well as the ability to maintain a sense of humor and grace
under pressure.
Physical Demands: Must be able to visually inspect work.
Special Environmental Factors: Close office setting.
