If you fee obligated to accept the offering and to keep
     it with the artifact, I'd recommend that you accession
     the offering and put it in a sealed plastic bag before
     you put/leave it in your collections.  Accessioning
     lets you keep track of what it is and why you kept it
     in your collections, and the bag prevents it from
     damaging other artifacts.
