As long as they do not bring in tripods or use flash, we allow visitors
to photograph the galleries. For special photography regarding
exhibitions or publications, the public relations department takes over,
supervises the shoots, and makes sure credit lines are appropriately
supplied to the news media and copyright is acknowledged so that the news
media (or whoever is shooting) gets proper contacts for permissions to
publishing. We also make sure lights are only used when actually
shooting the items to minimize light exposure to the objects.
We don't allow flash for conservation/preservation reasons, but we also
believe that flash is an annoyance to other visitors, so we ask our
visitors to desist from using it.
Wherever permission has not been granted to photograph objects by any one
of our lenders, we make sure to follow that agreement, and we let our
marketing and public relations personnel know which items are out of
bounds. If the photographer or news agency is still interested, then
they must contact the owner directly. We can usually call the lender
directly and ask for permission, if granted, then we go ahead with the
shoot, otherwise, we do not allow photography of objects that have
restrictions.
