The American Association of Museum (AAM) Accessibility Award is offered
to institutions jointly by AAM and the National Organization on
Disability. The award promotes universal design features that
accommodate all people, regardless of disability. The award citation
carries a $1000 stipend that is donated through the National
Organization on Disability by the J.C. Penney Company.
Judging criteria include ease of physical access to and within the
exhibition area, the degree to which universal design features have been
incorporated, the level of consumer involvement in the design process,
promotion of the accessible exhibit to new audiences, and the
post-design assessment process of how the exhibit is working.
Applications for the award are due in December 1998. To receive more
