POSITION TITLE: Collection Management Intern
POSITION NUMBER: 12-0881-07091999
LOCATION: Department of Education and Cultural Affairs, Office of History,
Museum of the South Dakota State Historical Society
Cultural Heritage Center, Pierre, South Dakota
SUPERVISOR: David Hartley, Museum Director
POSITION DESCRIPTION: Intern will assist Curator of Collections/Registrar
in a number of collection management duties. Primary responsibilities will
be to accession and catalog museum collections and to enter data into
collection management software. Other duties may include rehousing
collections, building storage mounts, performing minor conservation
treatments, and inventorying collections.
QUALIFICATIONS: Preference will be given to applicants with previous museum
experience and who are actively pursuing a degree in museum studies,
history, anthropology, or a closely related field. Excellent writing skills
and experience with a personal computer are required. Applicants to the
program must currently be enrolled at a college or university and have at
least sophomore credit standing by the end of the spring or summer 1999
semester, or they must currently be enrolled at a vocational-technical
school and have completed one year by the start of the internship.

MINIMUM SALARY: $8.00 per hour (depending upon qualifications)
Internship length - approx. 12-16 weeks (September-December)
