Second Conference on Partnership Opportunities for
Federally-Associated Collections Conference Announcement:
Cosponsored by the U.S. Department of the Interior, the San Diego
Natural History Museum and the San Diego Archeological Center.

Millions of objects, specimens, documents and other records are
managed in the public trust of the United States. These come from
Federal lands and sites, agencies, and programs. Federal and
non-Federal institutions often share the responsibility for care of
and access to these collections. In 1996, the U.S. Department of the
Interior and the Phoebe Hearst Museum of Anthropology at the
University of California, Berkeley, sponsored the first conference
designed to explore the issues surrounding Federal and non-Federal
partnerships to manage such collections. This conference, November
18-20, 1998 in San Diego, California will build on the results of the
1996 meeting with the intention of providing practical strategies for
fostering practical and useful partnerships among Federal, tribal,
institutional and amateur interests.

There will be two days of pre-conference activities, followed by three
days of formal presentation sessions. Interested parties should
visit <www.sdnhm.org/research/symposia/doi98.html>
for further information on this conference. Or contact
Dr. Paisley S. Cato at [log in to unmask] if you have questions.
