Re: David Haberstich's discussion of the term "public domain"
Perhaps the proper term in the realm of deaccessioning is work "held
in the public trust." I agree with Haberstich that there appears to
be some confusion with the broad usage of "public domain"--making
this distinction may help.
I have appreciated the discussion on this thread, as my museum has
been hammering out deaccessioning policy in recent weeks.
