Interesting, David. The comparison I use is what it cost me for lunch when I
was an undergraduate at McGill in Montreal in the early 60s. At a
neighbourhood tavern, two tourtieres (meat pies) plus a large order of fries
cost 40 cents. With a glass of beer (5 cents) and a nickel tip for the
waiter, you could have a great lunch for 50 cents! Clearly you and I agree
with Samuel Johnson, who said,
"I mind my belly most studiously, Sir, for I hold that he who does not will
scarce mind anything else!"
