Folks,
The airport in Eugene, Oregon has had an art gallery for 4 years. It is an
independant project not connected to any other visual arts organization.
The mission of the gallery is to showcase the wealth of creativity in
the region. This is done with 4 changing exhibits per year. The gallery is
located in an open area of the main concourse. Viewers must pass through
security prior to reaching the gallery. Although this is a small regional
airport it is estimated over 1.5 million people pass through the concourse
every year.
A variety of themes have been exhibited: (the following are examples)
HOMESPUN - The Traditional Arts
ALL THAT GLITTERS - Contemporary Metal Sculpture
LIKE FROST ON A WINDOW - The Beauty of the Written Word
INTO THE WOODS - Regional Wood Crafts
TO THE FOUR CORNERS - Regional Photographers Travel The World
EVERY PICTURE TELLS A STORY - Narrative Paintings
ALL THE WORLD'S A STAGE - Artists Design for the Stage
In the early years of the project artists were often hesitant to exhibit
their work. After 4 years of high quality installations the gallery is now
considered one of the premiere visual art venues in the region.
Above is a brief overview of The Gallery At The Airport in Eugene. I will
be happy to answer any specific questions.
