Dear Tim,
He's an alternative to consider if you don't need a complete body. We had
a very nice, CHEAP, form constructed by talented volunteer with good
sewing skills. She used washed, unbleached muslin with polyester batting
over a rough contoured ethafoam core. To make the core, ethafoam planks
were "laminated" with hot glue and shaped with an electric knife. The form
has no head. We already had a stand. Our particular volunteer was hoping
to get museum experiece and was thrilled for the chance to volunteer.
Check out a local college, high school home-ec, fabric store clerks, or
community theater group for possible volunteers with applicable skills.
Good luck.
Sarah Tuttle
P.S. Several years later, our ex-volunteer is now EMPLOYED in a different
museum.
