JOB OPENING: PREPARATOR
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Installation and De-installation of exhibitions: including space
preparation (construction, painting, acquisition of materials and supplies,
etc), supervision of part-time installation workers
Registration/shipping: work with shipper to unload/load, when necessary,
assist Curator with arrangments, receiving and release, and condition
reports, crating/uncrating
Permanent Collections: install and remove campus loans in campus offices
with Curator; maintain storage areas, occaissional framing/unframing of
art; art handling; order materials and supplies for collection (with
curator)
Exhibitions Records: Administer photographing of each show; Visual or desk
documentation continuing file of predominant visual information on each
show. (i.e., slides, catalogue and announcements)
Gallery Maintenance: Oversee all physical aspects of gallery

NATURE OF SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:
Responsible in all assisting aspects to the Director of the Fisher Art
Gallery as Preparator and in the Campus Loan Program. Supervises all waged
employees hired for installations of art work on loan and various
exhibitions in the gallery; total responsibility for the physical care of
the Fisher Gallery, working closely with the University's physical plant
employees to accomplish this care; preparatory duties and responsibilities
are generated from and supervised by the Associate Director of the Gallery.
Minimum Qualifications Required:
Must have BFA and 1 year professional museum experience in a preparatory
capacity. Must have vast knowledge and experience in the care and handling
of works of art. Must have carpentry experience.
Compensation:
Grade 5 Salary level (see USC Job web page for range), "non-exempt"
(hourly, overtime)
