Library/Museum Collections Manager
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The John Q. Adams Center for the History of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck
Surgery is seeking an industrious Collections Manager for the History &
Archives department. You will be expected to wear many hats and juggle
multiple projects.
Duties include but not limited to -
Computerized collections processing and cataloging
Care of collections
Research of collections
Exhibit planning and execution
Major projects underway for the dept. include -
The creation of a Virtual Museum
The migration of a DOS database to a Windows NT database
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with library, archival or museum
collections
Significant comfort level with computers and the Internet
Must work independently and in a team
Good oral and written communication skills important
College degree in a related field preferred
The John Q. Adams Center is part of the American Academy of
Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery Foundation, a national medical specialty
association located in Old Town, Alexandria. The Adams Center was established
in 1990 to preserve the history of otolaryngology-head and neck surgery.
Collections
800 volume library, dating from 1603 to the present
Over 700 artifacts, including hearing aids and surgical instruments
Over 30 shelf-meters of personal and organizational archival materials
