I have had a request to copy copper and nickle coins from our collection of
Sloss company money.   The  plan is to make a rubber mold directly from the
coins, then create wax patterns, and ultimately pour new coins.   While
there are real advantages to having copies made, I am a little leary of
such an active process invloving a very limited and rare collection.  Has
anyone made copies of coins directly or know of the potential pitfalls to
taking a rubber mold?  I've already spoken to a jeweler who says that it
can be done without any harm to the original coin.
