ALUTIIQ MUSEUM DEPUTY DIRECTOR APPOINTED
The Alaska State Board of Education appointed Alutiiq Museum Deputy
Director and Curator, Amy Steffian to a three-year term on the Alaska
State Museum Collections Advisory Committee.
Steffian is honored to serve, “this is a great opportunity to observe
Alaskan art and culture collections from a statewide perspective.” The
Museum Collections Advisory Committee meets quarterly and is appointed
by the Alaska State Board of Education to oversee acquisitions for the
Alaska State Museums system. Fellow committee members include Jan
Steinbright Jackson, Jean Flanagan Carlo, Joan M. Antonson and Chair
George Parker.
In a letter regarding Steffian’s appointment, Department of Education
Commissioner, Dr. Shirley J. Holloway stated, “thank you for your
interest on obtaining and safeguarding the state’s permanent collection
of artifacts and objects that are essential to preserving Alaska’s
heritage. The Board and I wish you much success in your new position.”
Those of us in Kodiak who have seen Steffian in action at the Alutiiq
Museum know that she will be a valuable asset to the Alaska State
Museum.
