Funds are still available for the Conservation Assessment Program (CAP). Applications must be postmarked by December 4, 1998 so museums who are interested in applying should act IMMEDIATELY!
CAP is funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) and administered by Heritage Preservation (formerly the National Institute for the Conservation of Cultural Property). CAP provides matching grants for a general conservation assessment or survey of a museum's living or non-living collections, environmental conditions and sites. Conservation priorities are identified by professional conservators who spend two days on-site and three days writing a report. Reports produced by conservators help museums develop strategies for improved collections care and provide a tool for long-range planning and fund-raising. CAP is designed to serve museums with small- to medium-sized collections and sites that can be surveyed in two days.
Because the application deadline is this Friday, it is suggested that applicants download the application materials from Heritage Preservation's website at www.heritagepreservation.org. To receive a hard copy of the application or for more information, please contact Kristen Overbeck at [log in to unmask] or Kyra Skvir at [log in to unmask]
